Consumer Advisory Body Update

Apart from our regular agenda items there was great general discussion at our Consumer Advisory Body last month about the funding packages and questions that would be helpful to know.

With Home Care Packages, do clients have to keep $5000 in their package for emergencies?

There is no set amount that clients must keep in their unspent funds for emergencies. Clients may choose to fully utilise all home care package funds each month to meet their care needs or to retain some as unspent funds for emergencies. Where your budget allows, we recommended keeping $500-$1,000 in unspent funds for emergencies however this may not always be possible.

What happens to the unspent funds in the package each year?

Is it use it or lose it or does it get rolled over to the next year? Under the current Home Care Package program guidelines, unspent funds roll over each month for the life of the homecare package (funds do not reset at the end of either the calendar or financial years). However, it is important to note that this is based on the current program guidelines and may change in the future if the guidelines change.

If you no longer need Personal Care after a fall can that be used on something else?

Yes. Home Care Packages are designed to be flexible and responsive to your current care needs. If your needs change, please contact CareWays to organise a reassessment so your Support Plan can be changed to meet your current needs.
